When Leather Waves Officially opened it’s doors in 1975, Leather was still a hard thick material with limited use in fashion. Jackie Robbins wanted to follow the “Hippie Representation” of the material used in the 1960’s, by a more sophisticated fashion approach. You will see a progressive use of different materials in unique combinations, as leather became more pliable and softened in it’s flow and appeal. These changes in the market complimented some of the best selling designs. The “Western”, “Safari”, “Bolero”, “Cocoon Wrap”, “Slacks”, “Topcoat”, “Decorated Denim”, “Motorcycle”, “Rock and Roll”, “Designer Chic”, “Vintage”,”Bohemian or Bo-Ho” are some of the trends explored. It was modeled after my daughter and her friends that grew up in Malibu. A limited special edition, wholesale version, of the line was sold in several Los Angeles boutiques, as well as Leather Waves in Malibu thru 2005. I have always enjoyed and have had many requests to make leather clothing in small enough sizes to fit all the amazing children I have known. It has always been fun to dress my small friends just like I have dressed my adult clients.
